Dear Prince Georges County Board of Education
I remember my friend had a teacher who didn’t answer her questions so she didn’t understand and would ask me for help. If a teacher doesn’t answer questions and ignores everyone how are you supposed to learn? She told the principal that most of the students in that class were failing and that the teacher should get fired. He didn’t get fired so she failed the class and had to take it over again which was a waste of time. If she were to have a different teacher she maybe would have passed. I am writing to inform you that some teachers need to do a better job at teaching. Students always get blamed if they are not doing well in their classes. Teachers say that students don’t do the best they can when most of the time teachers aren’t teaching as well as they can. Students need a good education which they cant get if teachers don’t try their hardest to teach the best they can and make sure the students understand. Maybe some teachers are absent most of the time and students can’t learn with substitute teachers because they don’t teach. I believe that students would learn better if there were no bad teachers in the schools. Teachers know when other teachers are not doing a good job so why don’t they say anything? Do they care about the students education? I think the parents or students should be able to pick their teachers because they might like the way that other teachers teach and are able to learn better that way. Robert Slotterback states “I disagree that eliminating poor teachers will dramatically improve student performance, that Minnesota is comparatively weaker because it has too many poor teachers and that districts do not confront poor teaching.” this shows that too many bad teachers are getting hired because there are not many good teachers. I think there is not too many good teachers because they do not want to teach at bad schools. "The best teachers do this not by shouting but by winning the affection of the kids so they don't want to make things hard," says Jonathon Kozol, a non-fiction writer, educator, and activist, best known for his books on public education in the U.S. Teachers will say that the students need to be more involved or need to study more so they can understand things better. Some people may think that a good teacher is someone who assumes that the students are ready to learn and that their job is to move them through the appointed steps to the next grade. I agree that some bad teachers are only bad because some students don’t listen and they get frustrated but they should have been prepared for those students because all students are not going to be good and perfect students who respects their teachers. Students should be respectful and if they don’t want to learn they should at least be respectful. There will always be disruptive students in every class but teachers should not allow them to stop other students from getting a good education. I believe a good teacher would know what to do with them students. Most students don’t like some of their teachers maybe because they’re too mean but that is a good teacher who don’t let students interrupt their class. My friend took the class over and passed with all A’s because the new teacher she had was a good teacher and she was able to understand what was being taught. The school system would hire good teachers if they really wanted the students to succeed in life. |
